The City of Port Townsend is recruiting to fill one opening in our Public Works Engineering division to focus on transportation projects. The position may be filled at any of the levels described below, depending on qualifications. Complete job descriptions are available here.

Civil Engineer I, II , or III

Summary: Under general supervision from the Deputy Public Works Director, this position is responsible for development and implementation of Public Works projects and the stewardship of city infrastructure working towards a sustainable future. The application of civil engineering principles and practices in the preparation of plans, specifications and estimates related to the design, construction and maintenance of these projects provides the core basis for this work.

Pay Range: $88,108-109,254 (CE I), $97,140-120,453 (CE II), $107,096-132,799 (CE III)

Required Qualifications:

  • Licensed engineer in the State of Washington or the ability to obtain a license within 6 months of hire
  • Graduation from college with a degree in civil engineering or closely related field
  • Valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier
  • (Civil Engineer II only) minimum of 3 years of experience as a licensed engineer
  • (Civil Engineer III only) minimum of 6 years of experience as a practicing licensed engineer

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master of Science Degree in related field
  • Work experience in municipal engineering

Engineer in Training (EIT)

Pay Range: $79,917-99,097

Required Qualifications:

  • Engineer in Training Certification
  • Graduation from college with a degree in civil engineering or closely related field
  • Valid Washington State Driver's license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier

Preferred Qualification

  • Master of Science Degree in a related field

Project Manager I, II, or III

Summary: Under general supervision from the Deputy Public Works Director, this position is responsible for development and implementation of Public Works projects and the stewardship of city infrastructure working towards a sustainable future. Higher levels of the Project Manager role may include supervision of personnel. The orderly efficient and effective execution of projects is core basis for this work.

Pay Range: $83,913-104,052 (PM I), $92,514-114,717 (PM II), $101,997-126,476 (PM III)

Minimum Requirements:

  • Graduation from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in a related field
  • Valid Washington State Driver's license
  • (Project Manager II only) minimum of 3 years of experience
  • (Project Manager III only) minimum of 6 years of experience
