Database Migration Engineer – MSSQL to PostgreSQL (AWS RDS)

• Strong T-SQL to PL/pgSQL conversion experience (20K+ stored procedures, functions, triggers)
• Deep experience with AWS SCT and AWS DMS in real migration projects
• Advanced MSSQL and PostgreSQL performance tuning expertise
• Experience validating compatibility with .NET Core microservices (API-level data logic)
• Experience optimizing or rewriting procedures for performance + business logic accuracy

This is NOT a Big Data/ETL/Data Engineer role. No Spark, Databricks, or Snowflake profiles.

Job Summary

We are looking for a specialized Database Migration Engineer to lead a large-scale migration of 20,000+ MSSQL stored procedures to AWS RDS for PostgreSQL.

The role focuses on database migration, stored procedure conversion, SQL optimization, and ensuring complete alignment with .NET Core microservices that depend on this logic.

This role requires someone who has done heavy stored procedure migrations, not ETL/data pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyze complex MSSQL stored procedures, functions, triggers, views.
• Convert T-SQL to PL/pgSQL including:
• Data type mapping
• Control flow
• Cursors
• Temporary tables
• Set-based logic
• Error handling
• Rewrite, refactor, and optimize SQL logic during migration.
• Identify redundant or obsolete SPs and suggest consolidation or removal.
• Use AWS SCT for assessment and conversion templates.
• Use AWS DMS for continuous data migration/replication.
• Validate compatibility with .NET Core microservices consuming the database APIs.
• Performance tune PostgreSQL (indexes, partitions, execution plans).
• Work with DevOps on RDS configuration, backups, scaling, security.
• Build automation scripts (Python/Shell) for migration workflows.
• Create migration dashboards, logs, and validation scripts.

Required Technical Skills

MSSQL

• Expert in T-SQL programming
• Complex SPs, triggers, views, indexing
• Query & execution plan optimization

PostgreSQL

• Strong PL/pgSQL experience
• Function rewriting, indexing, partitioning
• Performance tuning, query refactoring

AWS

• AWS RDS for PostgreSQL (must)
• AWS Schema Conversion Tool – SCT (must)
• AWS Database Migration Service – DMS (must)
• CloudWatch monitoring

Tools & Scripting

• Python / Shell / PowerShell for automation
• Git/Bitbucket for versioning

Preferred Qualifications

• AWS Certification – Data Engineer / Database Specialty
• Experience with EF Core, Dapper, or .NET Core data layer
• Knowledge of schema design, normalization, API-driven data models
• Experience with Terraform/CloudFormation

Soft Skills

• Extremely strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Ability to optimize and refactor very complex SQL logic
• Strong communication skills to work with application, DevOps, and cloud teams
