About the RoleThe Director – Data Engineering & Data Management will lead the strategy, design, and delivery of enterprise-scale data platforms and governance frameworks for the Insurance business. The role requires deep expertise in modern data architectures, large-scale data operations, regulatory compliance, and strong domain knowledge of the Lloyd’s market. The Director will transform data into a strategic asset to enable advanced analytics, AI initiatives, regulatory reporting, and informed business decision-making.Data Strategy, Engineering & GovernanceThe role will define and lead scalable, cloud-based data architectures, including data lakes, warehouses, lakehouses, and real-time pipelines. It involves designing and maintaining data pipelines for P&C insurance datasets such as bordereaux, policy, claims, premium, pricing, and exposure data, and implementing modern cloud-native technologies across platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP using tools like Databricks, Snowflake, and enterprise integration frameworks. The Director will oversee end-to-end development of high-performance data pipelines using SQL, Python, PySpark, and ETL/ELT frameworks, while driving automation, CI/CD practices, reusable components, and engineering best practices. The role also ensures reliable data ingestion from policy administration systems, claims platforms, CRM systems, TPAs, reinsurers, and external data providers.The Director will implement enterprise-wide data governance, metadata management, master data management, and data lineage standards, and establish robust data quality frameworks to meet regulatory, audit, and compliance requirements. Close collaboration with Compliance, Risk, and Audit teams is required to ensure adherence to IRDAI regulations, privacy laws, and security guidelines.Insurance Domain ExpertiseThe role requires strong understanding of P&C insurance and Lloyd’s market operations, including delegated authority bordereaux, premium, claims, exposure, broker, and coverholder data. The Director will guide data modelling for underwriting, pricing, claims, renewals, actuarial models, and regulatory reporting, and support analytics use cases such as fraud detection, lapse prediction, risk scoring, and customer segmentation.Leadership & DeliveryThe Director will lead and mentor cross-functional teams of data engineers, architects, quality engineers, and analysts, while building strong partnerships with C-level leaders, product owners, business SMEs, and technology stakeholders. The role includes ownership of multi-year data transformation programs, ensuring alignment with strategic roadmaps, budgets, and timelines, monitoring KPIs related to platform performance, data reliability, efficiency, and adoption, and proactively managing risks and dependencies.Experience & SkillsThe ideal candidate will have more than 14 years of experience in Data Engineering or Data Management, including at least 5 years in leadership roles, with strong experience in the Lloyd’s Market or UK Insurance domain. Experience working with Lloyd’s syndicates, MGAs, brokers, or P&C insurers is essential. Hands-on expertise in SQL, Python, PySpark, APIs, and cloud data platforms is required, along with deep knowledge of Azure Data Services, Databricks, Snowflake, Synapse, Kafka, or similar technologies. Strong capabilities in data governance, regulatory reporting, enterprise data ecosystems, team leadership, budget management, and stakeholder communication are critical for success in this role.
Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s/Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.Certifications in cloud platforms (Azure/AWS/GCP) or data engineering.Prior experience in setting up enterprise data platforms for insurance carriers or InsurTechs.
