Job Summary

The Manager, Drilling & Completions is responsible for the planning and safe execution of all drilling and completions operations with a focus continuous improvement and capital efficiency optimization. This role leads multidisciplinary teams in the planning, engineering, and operational execution of drilling and completions projects. Key responsibilities include project budgeting, wellbore, pad and wellsite design, contract management, and adherence to EHS and regulatory standards. The role will also provide technical leadership, mentor staff, collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments (e.g., Reservoir Engineering, Geology, and EHS), and deliver data-driven performance improvements across the asset base.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Drilling Operations

  • Direct and manage all drilling operations from planning to execution.
  • Identify and implement emerging drilling technologies to reduce costs and improve efficiencies.
  • Develop and deliver accurate drilling procedures, well plans, and AFE estimates.
  • Manage drill schedules in coordination with asset development plans.
  • Oversee procurement of well construction services, tubulars, and rig services.
  • Select and supervise qualified employees, well-site consultants, and third-party contractors.
  • Ensure consistent daily drilling reporting and cost tracking.
  • Support fishing operations and well-control incidents in collaboration with Completions and Production teams.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, internal EHS policies, and contractor safety protocols.

Completions Operations

  • Lead execution of hydraulic fracturing and well stimulation activities.
  • Identify and implement emerging completion technologies to reduce costs and improve productivity.
  • Oversee completions planning including location approvals, pad construction, equipment design, and logistics coordination.
  • Manage recompletion and workover operations when required.
  • Collaborate with field completions supervisors for flowback, perforating, and pumping activities.
  • Lead technical evaluations, including open/cased-hole log analysis, offset performance reviews, and completion design optimization.

Supervisor Duties

  •          Provide mentoring and technical oversight to drilling and completions engineers, consultants, and field supervisors.
  •          Monitor and report on capital spend, identifying cost-saving and performance improvement opportunities.
  •          Oversee contractor and vendor performance, including contract negotiation, bid evaluation, and service order approvals.
  •          Coordinate SIMOPs and collaborate with EHS for safe and efficient execution.
  •         Communicate effectively with all levels of the organization via written reports and verbal updates.
  •         Champion safety, innovation, and continuous improvement throughout operations.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering required. 

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong working knowledge of drilling and completion techniques, including horizontal wells, workovers, flowback, and surface facilities.
  • Proficiency with WellView, Petra, and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong project management and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Creative problem-solver with high attention to safety, detail, and execution.
  • Demonstrated leadership of multidisciplinary engineering and field teams. 

Professional Certification

  • Current Well Control Certification required.
  • Professional Registration (PE) preferred.

Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in drilling, completions, or well operations.
  • Piceance basin experience is an asset.

Working conditions

  • Based in Denver office with regular travel to field locations.
  • Occasional extended hours or irregular schedules as operational needs require.

*Pay range for this role is $215,000 to $293,000.  Salary and title will depend on skills, experience, and internal equity.*
