CSI Recruiting is working with a privately-held, long-standing exploration and production company with assets throughout Texas and Oklahoma, assisting in their search for a Drilling Manager / Director of Drilling.

This position will report to the Vice President of Engineering and will lead the company’s drilling operations projects and strategy.

The company, in business for 30+ years, is well funded, has both conventional and unconventional projects, and is also involved in a substantial joint venture endeavor as the operator for the project.

The Drilling Manager / Director of Drilling is responsible for overseeing the engineering and operational aspects of drilling projects, ensuring that the outputs meet business objectives related to design parameters, operational risks, production optimization, safety, and cost- effectiveness.

This role involves managing drilling teams, coordinating multi-disciplinary projects, and making independent decisions to enhance project execution and efficiency. This position plays a key role in budget management and innovation in drilling practices to maintain competitive advantage.

RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Manage drilling teams, including engineers, technicians, and rig supervision, ensuring coordination and efficiency.
  • Provide project management leadership in the development of existing assets, achieving annual budget targets and accelerating field development projects.
  • Lead team meetings and act as a liaison with internal organizations for multi-disciplinary project coordination.
  • Communicate team results and project statuses to the operations management team.
  • Stay updated on the latest technologies in drilling engineering and implement innovations for cost reduction and efficiency improvement.
  • Provide engineering input into the budget process, including operations scheduling and drilling cost estimation.
  • Act as a liaison with contractors, suppliers, and competitors.
  • Provide on-call support, including nights and weekends, and be available for short-notice trips to field locations.
  • Conduct routine field trips to assess operations and provide leadership presence.

Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Engineering (chemical, mechanical, or petroleum).
  • Minimum of 15 years of applicable experience in drilling operations.
  • At least 5 years of experience in leadership or management roles.
  • Advanced knowledge of drilling, completions, and production principles and techniques.
  • Experience with industry software such as Wellview, Power BI, and Spotfire.

NICE TO HAVE:
  • Experience in multiple basins/resource plays within the US. Exposure to international projects is a plus.
  • Knowledge of supply chain management and contractor compliance.
