General Maintenance Mechanic A (Landscape Irrigator)

Basic Function

As a Mechanic A Landscape/Irrigation you will install, repair, trouble shoot and perform alterations to all irrigation systems, equipment, fixtures, and controls at all METRO properties. It includes, but is not limited to Rail Stations, Park & Rides, Transit Centers, Medians, attached landscaping to the facilities, and connections to any water supply. Performs general maintenance to all systems within Facilities Maintenance. Performs duties in a safe, efficient manner and in compliance with all applicable rules and safety procedures.

Responsibilities and Specific Duties

• Required to perform installations, repairs, trouble shoot, and alterations to all irrigation systems.
• Connection of system to private or public water supply.
• Repairs, adjusts, and replaces irrigation controllers.
• Completes and submits material and equipment requirements.
• Performs daily troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Completes monthly, quarterly, and yearly PMs on all irrigation systems on time.
• Notifies supervisor of malfunctioning equipment.
• Able to assist other trades as required.
• Maintains inventory of irrigation supplies and equipment.
• Completes all work via Work Orders assigned by Facility Supervisor in a timely manner.
• Creates & Closes Work Orders in SAPUI (using Metro issued tablet or PC) daily. 
• Must be available for emergencies, required overtime, varied work schedules and shifts.
• Cleans assigned areas and equipment.
• Keeps trucks and/or work area stocked with supplies/materials for performing job assignments.
• Provides excellent customer service to METRO internal and external customers. 
• Applies SMS (Safety Management System) methods and principles in daily routine and supports all aspects of the agency’s Public Agency Safety Plan (PTASP).
• Promotes safety awareness and follows safety procedures to reduce or eliminate accidents.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
  Pay Rate: $30.49

Education Requirement

High school diploma or equivalent.        

Years & Experience Required

Minimum of two (2) years’ experience as an Irrigation Technician (IT). 

Knowledge & Skills Required

Valid State of Texas Driver’s License. Valid State of Texas TCEQ License as an Irrigation Technician (IT). Good working knowledge of irrigation systems.  Able to complete/fill-out written reports, records, and forms. Able to maintain and/or obtain additional licensing or certifications as required.
