POSITION SUMMARY
The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) is seeking an Industrial Maintenance Millwright to join the BES Operations and Maintenance Group.
This is full performance level work in the repair and maintenance of wastewater treatment facilities and city-wide pumping stations. Millwrights are responsible for the inspection, adjustment, installation, repair, and preventive/predictive maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment and structures (including pumps, gear reducers, valves, generators, pipe systems, boilers, heat exchangers, blowers, clarifiers, and screen house systems, solids handling, chlorination equipment, and related structures). Employees of this class perform work with considerable independence. Work is reviewed by a supervisor through on-site inspection for proper completion and/or review of completed work orders. Successful candidates will have completed a 4-year apprenticeship program as an Industrial Maintenance Millwright or possess demonstrated equivalent skills and experience.
This position is represented by the Laborers’ Local 483 collective bargaining agreement.

The recruitment process will consist of a pass/fail evaluation of the applicant's training and experience as demonstrated in their supplemental questionnaire, cover letter, and résumé. Candidates passing the Supplemental Questionnaire, cover letter, and resume review must meet one or the other of the following to be placed on the equally ranked eligible list:
Have their Journeyman Certificate at the time of application.
or
Receive a passing score of 70% or higher on the Industrial Maintenance Millwright standards test at Mount Hood Community College (MHCC). Candidates being invited to test will be notified via email with instructions on how to participate. Testing will be scheduled by the City of Portland if needed.
Those candidates passing the evaluation and having their Journeyman's certificate or receiving a passing score of 70% or higher on the MHCC test, weighted 100%, will be placed on an equally ranked eligible list. You have 14 days from the notice of the examination results to let us know if you disagree with your results. Please read the City of Portland Administrative Rule 3.01 for complete information. Additional evaluation may be required before the establishment of the eligible list and/or final selection. After acceptance of a conditional job offer, candidates must also successfully pass a physical capacities test.
