Westfalia Fruit Estates, situated in Tzaneen, has a vacancy for a suitably qualified and experienced: Irrigation Engineer



Requirements

Purpose of the role

The position is responsible for the overall construction, site planning, management and execution of

projects within irrigation and water related projects, under supervision. The engineer will also be part

of initiation, design and coordination of water related and other projects within the agricultural

space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing and optimizing water infrastructure and irrigation for agricultural purposes, considering
  • factors like efficiency, optimized utilization, safety, and environmental impact.
  • Reading and interpretation of engineering plans and drawings for water infrastructure and
  • irrigation related projects to manage onsite installations and execution of projects.
  • Planning preventative maintenance schedules and timeous execution thereof.
  • Various systems design and management within the agricultural space like bulk water pipelines,
  • dams, reservoirs, irrigation, pump houses, automation, etc.
  • Preparing detailed engineering drawings and specifications for construction and installation.
  • Identifying and implementing innovative solutions to improve irrigation and water use efficiency
  • and effectiveness.
  • Conducting inspections on dams and bulk water pipelines.
  • Negotiating and administering contracts with vendors and suppliers while building and
  • maintaining relationships with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders
  • Developing and managing project schedules, budgets and resources

Education

  • BSc-Eng/B-Eng Agricultural/Civil or Mechanical Engineer.
  • Candidate registration will be an added advantage.

Experience

  • 2-3 years’ experience in design, project management and engineering manufacturing projects
  • within water infrastructure and irrigation
  • General knowledge of the Health & Safety Act
