Under general supervision of the Parks Operations Supervisor, the Irrigation Specialist operates a variety of construction equipment used to perform skilled work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of the City's irrigation systems within the Parks inventory.

Irrigation Specialist II (Licensed)
The Irrigation Specialist II (Licensed) performs all duties of the Irrigation Specialist I, in addition to the following:
Required:
Irrigation Specialist
High School Diploma or G.E.D., and one (1) year experience related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid State of Texas Driver’s License. Ability to obtain designation as a Licensed Irrigation Installer by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) within twelve (12) months from date of employment, and ability to maintain the certification. Knowledge of materials and products used in landscape irrigation installation and maintenance. Knowledge of hydraulic and electrical system installation, operation, and repair. Knowledge of irrigation system design and general plant/turf water requirements. Experience with wire tracer and remote unit operation and use. Willingness and availability to work weekends, evenings, holidays, and emergency response.
*Additional Requirements for Irrigation Specialist II (Licensed):
Two (2) years of experience related to area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Designated as a Licensed Irrigation Installer by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), and ability to maintain the certification. Designated as a Licensed Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), or the ability to obtain within six (6) months from date of hire, or from date of promotion. Knowledge of the following: principles and procedures of irrigation systems; care, operation, and maintenance of a variety of power tools and equipment; occupational hazards and standard safety practices required for the area of work assigned; and techniques and procedures of irrigation system repair and maintenance. Some working knowledge of the following: principles of computer programming; hydraulic principles relating to irrigation design and construction; drainage system design and installation; proper maintenance of a variety of automatic and manual irrigation systems including all component parts (e.g. valves, controller, heads, etc.); turf, soil, fertilizer and landscape maintenance. Ability to troubleshoot, service and repair commercial irrigation systems; read and interpret blueprints; work effectively with plastic, copper and galvanized pipe; and follow oral and written instructions.
Preferred:
Ability to test and maintain backflow prevention devices
Physical Requirements:
Continuous outdoor activity, frequent sitting, standing, walking, squatting, bending, twisting upper body, climbing, exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, mechanical hazards, fume/odor hazards, toxic waste/material hazards, occasional kneeling, crawling, carrying up to ninety (90) pounds, lifting up to ninety (90) pounds.
