Job Title: Irrigation Technician                                                

Wage/Hour Status: Nonexempt

Reports to: Facilities Director                                                                         

Pay Grade: 7

Dept. /School: Facilities                                                                                         

Days: 247

 

           

Primary Purpose:

To assist in district goals through effective and efficient operation of irrigation systems in order to maintain a satisfactory condition of the district landscapes

 

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years as a commercial irrigation maintenance technician

 

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred
  • Valid Texas Commercial Driver’s License with a good driving record

 

 

Special Knowledge Skills:

  • Ability to operate environmental irrigation systems
  • Knowledge of light and heavy equipment operation and maintenance
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade
  • Proficient knowledge of math skills which pertain to basic wiring, automated irrigation controllers, central irrigation systems and computerized irrigation controllers
  • Basic backflow and plumbing knowledge

 

 

Experience:

  • 3-5 years’ experience working on irrigation systems

 

 

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Operate heavy equipment
  • Perform minor maintenance on equipment
  • Adjusts, repairs and replaces irrigation systems, heads, controllers etc.
  • Must be able to program all types of irrigation systems
  • Ability to read, interpret and implement projects from blue prints, sketches, schematics and drawings
  • Demonstrate and train other employees on various equipment as necessary
  • Site preparation
  • Haul trash and debris
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Working Conditions:

 

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent districtwide travel; occasional prolonged or irregular hours. Walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying.  Work outside and around moving objects or vehicles. Exposure to extreme temperatures and loud noises.
