JOB SUMMARY
Maintains the functioning of the irrigation system on the campus of John Knox Village. Performs routine checks and repairs as needed and make project recommendations as needed for new systems based on renovation and improvements. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training as required by policy.
ESSENTIAL Job functions
- Inspects, trouble shoots, and ensures irrigation systems are functioning properly; performs preventive maintenance
- Repairs valves, traces electrical components, and adjusts spray heads and irrigation timers.
- Locates existing zones, valves and system components for repair.
- Performs “wet check” irrigation system services.
- Understands plant physiology needs as it relates to watering applications.
- Dismantles and repairs control valves, spray heads and other system components.
- Complies with all Federal, State and Local FDOT, OSHA, EPA laws, ordinances and policies.
- Trouble shoots and has a fundamental understanding of electrical meters and pumps and its systems.
- Make recommendations concerning renovation and installation of new irrigation systems; assists in planning new improvements for the Village.
- Fills in on mow crew, trash truck, and snow removal vehicles.
- Pulls weeds, helps with leaf removal in the fall and gum balls in the spring
- Assists with move jobs, including furniture, pianos, couches, etc.
- Performs any other responsibilities as may be required or requested by the direct supervisor.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Ability to handle stress and get along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
- Ability to maintain acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- This position requires the level of education typically acquired by a course of study leading to a high school diploma or GED
Licenses/Certifications:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Missouri Class E driver’s license or equivalent within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):
- 2 years of irrigation service experience required.
- Knowledge of the tools, materials, equipment and techniques used in irrigation systems maintenance and repair work.
- Must be able to work independently and efficiently.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to interpret blueprints, construction documents, schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Basic level keyboarding required.
- Must have problem solving skills, speaking ability, handle people well and initiative.
- Must have excellent time management skills, with the ability to multitask and establish priorities.
SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS
- The associate is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme cold temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour or extreme heat temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
- The associate is subject to sufficient noise to need to shout to be heard above ambient noise level.
- The associate is subject to vibration of the extremities or whole body.
- The associate is subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
- The associate is subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin: fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation.
- The associate is subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
- The associate is required to wear a respirator when performing certain tasks.
- The associate frequently is in close quarters, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, small, enclosed rooms, small sewage and water line pipes, and other areas which could cause claustrophobia.
- The associate is required to function in narrow aisles or passageways.
- Must be on call for emergencies.
- Essential aptitudes include spatial aptitude, motor coordination, form perception, finger dexterity, clerical perception, manual dexterity, color discrimination and eye/hand/foot coordination.
- The associate may be exposed to infectious diseases and is required to function around individuals with challenged mental capacities.
- All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
