Location: Metro Vancouver, BC (In-Person) Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Compensation:$40.00 – $45.00 per hour (Employer Estimate)
HireNow Staffing is seeking a seasoned, safety-focused Millwright to join a well-established industrial food processing operation in Metro Vancouver. This opportunity is best suited for a tradesperson who takes pride in mechanical precision, thrives in hands-on environments, and understands how equipment reliability directly impacts people, product, and performance.
This role is not designed for entry-level applicants. Candidates must demonstrate the technical depth, situational awareness, and professional maturity required to support a live production environment.
The Opportunity
As a Millwright, you will play a critical role in maintaining, repairing, and improving the mechanical systems that support daily processing and distribution operations. Your work will directly influence production continuity, workplace safety, and equipment longevity.
You will be relied upon to respond calmly and methodically to both planned maintenance and unexpected equipment failures—sometimes outside regular hours—while maintaining clear communication with operators, engineers, and leadership.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Your core objective is to reduce downtime and maintain operational readiness across all mechanical systems within the facility. This includes:
Installing, repairing, aligning, and maintaining production, processing, and utility equipment
Supporting operating engineers with scheduled preventative maintenance and system inspections
Diagnosing and repairing mechanical failures in time-sensitive production environments
Maintaining and servicing equipment such as:
Ice-making systems
Freezer and cooling systems
Material handling, unloading, and delivery systems
Dock-mounted cranes and lifting equipment
Temperature-controlled production areas
Welding and fabricating custom parts to restore or improve equipment functionality
Installing new equipment and providing practical training to plant personnel
Performing routine inspections and documenting findings accurately
Working collaboratively with engineering and operations teams to ensure machinery remains safe and reliable
Responding to occasional emergency breakdowns and short-notice overtime as required
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
Red Seal or BC-certified Millwright (valid certification in British Columbia)
Minimum 2+ years of hands-on millwright experience in an industrial or plant environment
Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently
Experience working with plant pressure equipment, including boilers, cooling systems, and refrigeration
Proven ability to work safely and methodically in regulated environments
Clear, respectful communication skills and the ability to work across diverse teams
Willingness to work flexible schedules as operational needs require (e.g., Mon–Fri or Tue–Sat)
Preferred Qualifications (Highly Valued)
Candidates meeting these criteria will be given strong interview priority.
Experience in food processing or food manufacturing environments
Familiarity with seafood processing, fishing operations, or similar production settings
Strong understanding of sanitation, safety, and regulatory expectations in food-grade facilities
Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with operating engineers and production teams
Comfort working in cold or temperature-controlled environments
A proactive mindset toward equipment improvement, not just repair
The Right Fit
This role is ideal for a Millwright who:
Takes pride in creating and maintaining a safe workplace
Approaches mechanical challenges with patience, logic, and attention to detail
Enjoys teamwork and open problem-solving
Remains composed during urgent or high-pressure situations
Understands that equipment reliability is critical to customer trust and business success
