About the One Subsurface programme:
One Subsurface is our early careers programme designed to create a pipeline of subsurface professionals. Early careers will follow a structured development offer to accelerate the acquisition of foundational technical skills, experience and knowledge, and application in the business world. The programme supports transition from university to discipline professional and provides a framework of ‘non-technical’ skills to support building personal effectiveness skills. Early careers will build their experience through challenging development assignments, grow a toolkit of transferable skills for the future, and have a dedicated network of support to help them succeed.
This is a three-year program with two 18-month rotations, including field experience.
About the role
From exploration to production, our petroleum and reservoir engineers play a crucial role in bp’s field operation success. As a petroleum engineer, you’ll be integral in ensuring we extract hydrocarbons safely and efficiently from our global discoveries. You’ll be a vital member of our team and support the entire lifecycle of an oil or gas field, gaining exposure and experience through partnering with specialists across our business.
Petroleum Engineer: PEs use tools, methodologies, and technologies to collate data from the field to effectively manage and optimize base production and injection. PEs work within multi-disciplinary teams to ensure wells and operations remain safe, efficient, compliant, and sustainable. Key focus areas for PEs include:
Taking on the role as a Petroleum Engineering means ensuring reservoir & well performance, system optimization, reservoir & well management, and reservoir simulation. Alongside a strong degree in a technical field, such as petroleum engineering or a related degree, that means having excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for ensuring bp’s safety standards and new environmental ambitions.
Gaining offshore experience is one of the most effective ways to accelerate learning and development for early-career petroleum engineers. Early-career new hires may have the opportunity to travel offshore approximately once per month during their first year to a GoA deepwater operating platform. Specific details will be confirmed upon joining.
Because this role may involve offshore assignments, new hires must complete the required offshore safety and emergency response training (e.g., HUET), and obtain a valid TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential). Full guidance and support for these requirements will be provided during onboarding.
