Planer Technician/Millwright Certified Industrial Mechanic/Millwright, Castlegar, British Columbia

Interfor is seeking skilled, dependable and safety-minded team players to join our team as a Planer Technician/Millwright Certified Industrial Mechanic/Millwright in our Castlegar BC division. Starting wage for this position with a Millwright Red Seal Certification is $50.117 per hour.

What You’ll Do

  • Observe planer machine operation and adjust controls to ensure highest quality and production standards.
  • Perform routine/preventative maintenance on all planer machine equipment.
  • Maintain planer cutter heads and knives.
  • Operate in a safe and productive manner to prevent injuries.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards in and around the work area.
  • Perform machine setup, troubleshooting, repairs and preventative maintenance of Planermill and Kilns equipment. 
  • Install machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings, using hoists, lift trucks, hand tools, and power tools.
  • Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance.  required.
  • Work in conjunction with maintenance and operations personnel to maximize machine center performance and improvements. 

What You Offer

  • The ideal candidate will have several years experience in an automated lumber manufacturing environment working as a Planer Technician with strong mechanical experience, preferably Gilbert planers.
  • Minimum of 3 years as a Journeyman millwright is an asset.
  • Comprehensive understanding and ability to troubleshoot mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Commitment to safe work performance and work environment, without compromise.
  • Recognize problems problems and have them corrected immediately.
  • Open-minded and positive in dealing with change and new ways of doing things.
  • Able to communicate effectively with your team and other departments.
  • Take personal responsibility for the quality and timeliness of work.
