Purpose
of Role |
The Project Manager owns the overall
plan for the on-time delivery of new build Yachts to the Oyster client to the
agreed cost, specification, with the agreed variations, additions, options
and to the correct quality. The Project
Manager will bring together and co-ordinate the activities of the cross
functional team within Oyster that will deliver the new Yacht to the customer. The Project
Manager will represent Oyster Yachts in all dealings with clients for new
build yachts, from sale to handover. |

Job Responsibilities |
Forward
Planning · Ensure pre-order client options
are set in time for order intake. · Provide client with a list of due
dates for any options decisions that are still outstanding at point of order
intake. Ensure customer option decision due dates are agreed with relevant
areas and in line with Design, Procurement and boat build schedules. · Chair a formal handover of
contract from Sales Team to Operations. Review the current capacity plans,
and timescales together with a wider team to ascertain the projected
departmental requirements in order to achieve the required completion date. Contract
Execution (Boat Build) · Own the
overall build plan and management of the plan for your respective yacht(s) including
expediting activities within other departments to ensure on-time customer
delivery. · Own
reporting of the build plan progress and any variances or help needed.
Reporting will have a ‘live’ status to assist the leaders of the business and
have complete transparency of progress and budget status throughout the build
duration. · Maintain and update a Master
Work List on a timely basis for each yacht, detailing all variations to the
standard specification and all options pricing. · Own the
internal reporting of progress to staged payments and predicted payment
trigger dates. · Report
progress of the build and hours charged to the project by trade. Monitor actual
progress versus planned progress with the relevant trade or department head
to provide weekly status updates and establish mitigations for any delays. · Work with build teams and
Production management to achieve pre-agreed costings, targets, and schedules
so that all parties can ensure they have the necessary resource, equipment and information to enable the
efficient build of the yacht. · Work with the commercial department to
agree costings, specification and margins for standard and optional equipment
purchased from suppliers and to ensure the agreed margins are maintained
through the build. · Be a champion for HSE practices
on your yachts and in Oyster as a whole. Contract
Execution (Customer Liaison) · Provide the Client with
unbiased professional advice while at all times considering the Company’s
commercial interests. · Ensure the client is kept
appraised of the boat build progress, staged payment dates and projected
completion date using data agreed with the Exec and Production management
team. · Work with the client to make
certain all options are frozen in time for the build schedule and procurement
lead times. · Liaise
with Oyster’s or the Client’s interior designers and ensure any interior
design activities align with the production schedule. · Coordinate and schedule Client
site visits in conjunction with Production to ensure readiness for the visit
and that the meeting is productive. Contract
Closeout · Construct vessel leaving
account to ensure that all payments are received, and paperwork is in place
before handover. · Work
with the Commissioning Manager to oversee the yacht’s commissioning
activities. · Manage the co-ordination of sea
trials and the resolution of any issues arising before customer handover. · Check
the quality and specification of new yachts and ensure that yachts are
presented to clients up to standard and with minimal warranty faults/defects. · Support Client with completing
paperwork and administration including yacht registration, radio licensing,
tonnage surveys and MCA commercial vessel compliance. · Work with and co-ordinate any
activities with the captain, crew and surveyors to ensure on
time handover of the vessel. · Introduce the Client to their
Customer Services representative and Warranty Manager and ensure that
handover is smooth. |
Knowledge, Skills, Experience and
Qualifications required to perform the role |
Knowledge · Strong knowledge
of the systems and equipment typical of large, modern cruising yachts. · Strong knowledge
of the marine industry, yacht production techniques and processes. · An
understanding of the Oyster build process is desirable. |
Skills · IT
literate, competent user of Microsoft Office products and project management
IT tools. · Strong
stakeholder management skills – customer, senior management, suppliers,
employees, and contractors. |
Experience · Experience of leading medium
sized project teams on high value, low volume, and quality build projects. · Experience
of managing complex work schedules in a matrix management structure to meet
cost, quality, and delivery. · Experience
of sailing large, modern cruising yachts is ideal along with charter
experience. |
Qualifications · Degree
level educated. · Project
Management qualification, desirable e.g. PRINCE2 or APMP Accredited. · Yacht
Master Offshore or Ocean (or equivalent) would be an advantage. |

Be prepared to
