Positions Supervised:   Fab Shop Supervisor, Steel Welding Supervisor, and Steel Shipfitting Supervisor
 
 
POSITION SUMMARY
Responsible for the management of the Fab Shop and all Steel New Construction. Advises management of the status of work in progress for assigned trades, material availability, and potential production problems to ensure that personnel, equipment, materials and services are provided as needed.
 
Supervises (including hiring, orienting, training, evaluating, and discharging) the Fab Shop Supervisor, Steel Welding Supervisor, and Steel Shipfitting Supervisor to ensure they receive the training and support required for optimal performance.  Maintains up-to-date supervision records on each employee. Completes all staff evaluations and any required staff disciplinary actions as requested and on time. Ensures that the selection of employees is administered without regard to race, religion, color, veteran’s status, national origin, citizenship, sex, age, or non-job-related disability and consistent with Affirmative Action objectives and EEO laws.  Responsible for ensuring excellent customer service and performance by subordinate staff.
  
Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are as follows: ensure that all projects in the yard for assigned trades meet their deliverables 95% of the time; ensures that all  projects are on budget 95% of the time; ensures exemplary customer service by subordinate staff 100% of the time.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential Functions Statement(s)
  • Directs activities in areas of safety and personnel, production, material handling and quality and ensures compliance with all safety, quality, company and regulatory directives in conjunction with management
  • Implement and adhere to production costs including, but not limited to employee and material resources, and production budget.
  • Establish and foster a safe working environment for all employees.
  • Responsible and accountable for the performance of assigned craft supervisors and tradesmen for safety, quality, and production.
  • Translates company strategies into tactical plans. Creates and prioritizes necessary resources and steps required to accomplish goals on time.
  • Schedules and conducts shipyard meetings in conjunction with shipyard management
  • Advises company management team regarding manning and expense goals and ensures efforts are made to meet projections
  • Determines operations improvements in relation to safety, quality, manning, etc.
  • Advise a production workforce on processes and/or procedures
  • Develop plans for periodic inspections of shipboard equipment, systems, and structure to verify preventative maintenance work is completed in their assigned areas.
  • Use of standardized estimating procedures and material cost.
  • Identify and analyze production problems within a shipyard or other industrial processes and procedures
  • Prepare technical work documents and specifications for production work
  • Coordinate planning for ship work projects to verify projects are completed in accordance with established timelines

  • Bachelor’s degree in a suitable field and a minimum of five (5) years of marine and engineering experience, or an associate degree with at least 10 years of experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, Outlook and Project.
  • Basic knowledge of AutoCad is required.
  • Able to read and understand ship blueprints.
  • Strong communication skills-written and verbal. Must be able to communicate with employees of varying education levels and maintain positive employee relations.
  • Must be a highly organized person who can monitor numerous projects at once and can prioritize the workloads of reporting employees. Effective time management skills are a must.
 
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Education:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and minimum of two (2) years of production management experience, or a high school diploma with at least six (6) years’ experience 
Experience: 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint)
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with all levels of the organization
  • Must be detail-oriented and have proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Work is performed in both offices and customer facilities, shipyards and vessels.
  • Must be able to access all areas of shipyard and company property including shipyard and shipyard offices, dry-docks and terminals in all types of weather conditions.
  • Use of safety equipment, such as hard hat and safety glasses and steel toed shoes is required.
  • Some overtime and on-call status is required and employee may be required to work more than normal 40-hour week, including weekends.
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required of this position.
