Project Manager - Unlock Literacy

The position

World Vision Australia is seeking a dynamic and culturally responsive Project Manager to co-manage the adaptation and implementation of the Unlock Literacy Model in partnership with Warlpiri communities across the remote Central Australian locations of Lajamanu, Nyirrpi and Willowra. You will be expected to facilitate activities in community and take responsibility for ensuring WVA community staff are confident and competent in delivering activities aimed at supporting literacy development according to implementation plans.

As the Project Manager, you will:

• Lead participatory planning and implementation of the Unlock Literacy project
• Facilitate community-based activities and ensure cultural relevance of learning materials
• Support and mentor WVA community staff to deliver literacy development activities
• Manage project budgets, grants, and reporting requirements
• Build and maintain strong relationships with Aboriginal organisations, community leaders and external stakeholders
• Ensure stringent safeguarding practices and uphold World Vision’s values and standards
• Set the strategic direction for relevant staff to work towards project goals

Who we’re looking for

You will have a high level of engagement and responsibility with the ability to partner and work collaboratively with leaders in the Aboriginal community.

You will also have:

• Understanding of the cultural, political, economic and social issues affecting Aboriginal people in Central Australia
• Good understanding of, and a firm commitment to, community development processes, gender equity, participatory approaches and development theory
• Proven success and experience managing a team including mentoring and training staff
• Demonstrated professional experience working with remote Aboriginal communities in a developmental contex
• Ability to live in Alice Springs and travel to remote communities at least 10 days per month
• Experience facilitating community consultations and influencing community participation
• Degree qualification in Education, Community Development, Behavioural or Social Sciences, or a related discipline/equivalent experience
