Chiller Refrigeration Engineer

About the Role: Our client in Peterborough are seeking a highly skilled Chiller/Refrigeration Engineer to join their growing team. You will play a key role in installing, maintaining, and commissioning a variety of commercial and industrial chiller systems, ensuring optimal performance and compliance with industry standards. This is a field-based role, requiring travel to sites primarily across the Cambridgeshire region, with occasional out-of-hours or weekend work depending on project demands.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Install, service, and maintain a range of air-cooled and water-cooled chillers (scroll, screw, centrifugal, etc.)
  • Perform full commissioning duties: pre-commissioning checks, system testing, functional performance testing, and final reporting.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out effective repairs or system modifications.
  • Ensure all systems meet design specifications and comply with F-Gas and EN378 regulations.
  • Complete and maintain detailed documentation, including commissioning checklists, risk assessments, and method statements.
  • Support junior engineers and site teams during installation and commissioning.
  • Liaise with project managers, clients, and contractors to deliver seamless project execution.
  • Maintain the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance.

 

Person Specification

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (or equivalent)
  • City & Guilds 2079 / F-Gas Certification (Category 1)
  • Demonstrable experience commissioning commercial/industrial chiller and refrigeration systems
  • Solid understanding of refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and BMS integration
  • Ability to read technical drawings and wiring schematics
  • Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
  • Valid UK Driving Licence
  • CSCS/ECS certification preferred

 

Desirable:

  • Manufacturer training (e.g., Trane, Carrier, Daikin)
  • Experience with hydrotesting, pressure testing, and flushing
  • Knowledge of heat pumps and wider HVAC systems
  • Excellent communication and technical reporting skills
