Summary of Position

SIGN-ON INCENTIVE PROGRAM: $2,000 sign-on incentive upon hire

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for communicating with franchise utility contractors concerning work performed in the City right of way and responding to citizen inquiries, concerns, and complaints about franchise utility work.

Essential Functions

  • Reviews Right of Way Permits and line locate application requests and notify applicants of approval for work to begin. 
  • Read and review construction plans to determine potential underground work that will be performed by franchise utility contractors, general contractors, and residents.
  • Plans and coordinates accurate line locates in the field to help minimize strikes. 
  • Maintains open and effective communication with franchise utility contractors, sub-contractors, and the general public to address issues and concerns promptly. 
  • Communicates with franchise utilities and contractors with issues related to downed wires, power pole issues and damaged utilities.
  • Assists with the city’s Backflow Program by testing and field verifying backflow assemblies. 
  • Maintains applicable information in the city’s databases.
  • Supports divisional operations with water and wastewater repairs or street and drainage activities as needed. 
  • Operates and maintains various heavy equipment as required.
  • Prepares tools, materials, and equipment necessary for daily tasks; cleans and maintains tools, equipment, and truck. 
  • Interacts professionally and respectfully with the public, coworkers and others in the course of daily work.
  • Regular and timely attendance are required for this position.
  • Must report to work for duty outside normally scheduled work hours in response to natural disasters, emergencies or critical incidents as determined by City Administration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent 
  • Two years of work experience in street and utility construction or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Must possess or have the ability to obtain Class B CDL with required endorsements
  • Must possess a Class II Wastewater Collections license
  • Must possess a Class C Water Distribution license
