Accountabilites

This position is primarily accountable for engineering activities covering the planning, program preparation, and execution of drilling and workover operations within the Deep Water (DW) team. As part of the drilling engineering team, you will deliver engineering design, program development, and operational support for both new and existing wells.

Working in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams, you will ensure that drilling programs, program amendments, management of change (MOC) documents, and deviations are delivered on schedule, with appropriate risk assessments in place.

Commitment to HSE, Golden Rules, and an Incident-Free culture is essential—this role serves as a leading example.

Key Responsibilities

1. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)

  • Identify all drilling-related risks and ensure inclusion in the risk register for each operation.

  • Ensure all HSE requirements, including lifting color codes, are included in programs.

  • Prepare exemption dossiers when needed, with accompanying risk analyses for non-routine operations.

  • Maintain safety standards across all worksites.

2. Drilling Operations Preparation & Monitoring

  • Collaborate closely with geosciences to define well objectives, trajectories, casing design, challenges, and cost estimates.

  • Optimize well trajectory design to minimize or eliminate collision risks.

  • Prepare detailed well programs, organize DWOP sessions, and lead pre-spud meetings with rig site teams.

  • Develop planning schedules and progress curves; track daily progress and provide operational programs for non-routine activities.

  • Present design and progress updates to leadership, partners, and regulators.

  • Ensure performance and cost tracking is updated in daily reports and software.

  • Work with contractors and internal teams to optimize performance.

  • Provide engineering advice and support to rig teams for program execution.

  • Conduct regular rig visits to participate in safety meetings, audits, quality reviews, and operations oversight.

  • Complete final well reports, ensuring high data quality and integration of lessons learned.

  • Participate in technical studies and service contract evaluations.

3. Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering input for opportunity screening related to recovery enhancement or production increase.

  • Contribute to the select phase of projects by evaluating workovers, re-drills, and infill drilling feasibility.

  • Act as focal point for specific contracts.

  • Serve as lead drilling engineer for new wells as needed.

  • Lead engineering studies aimed at operational optimization.

  • Mentor and support the development of junior drilling engineers.
