The Electrical Technician will assemble, install, and maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, with primary focus on the electrical portions, and will assist in the crew’s daily operations.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • None

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Installs and assembles batteries and inverters

  • Bends and installs EMT, FMC, PVC, and other conduit between equipment.

  • Ensures that installations are performed according to plans.

  • Works with Foreman to ensure the crew runs smoothly and efficiently.

  • Follows building standards and codes when installing panels and support structures.

  • Ensure that equipment layout and conduit runs are aesthetically pleasing.

  • Assists in the installation of AC wiring and termination, and landing PV source circuits in inverters or controllers.

  • Ensures that equipment is installed according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.

  • Assist in any part of the installation required - roof included.

  • Assists in getting the required pictures to document installation and for funding.

  • Ensure that necessary material is pulled each day and that the vehicle is clean and well-stocked.

  • Performs routine maintenance on PV systems.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Extensive working knowledge of NEC code, specifically pertaining to PV.

  • Extensive knowledge of electrical wiring, methods, and equipment.

  • Extensive knowledge of conduit size vs. wire size and derating factors.

  • Knowledge of basic AC and DC electrical theory.

  • Must be competent in all portions of PV installation.

  • Ability to communicate professionally with ground and roof crews, as well as office management.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to plan ahead and prepare for unforeseen situations.

  • Ability to read building plans.

  • Ability to read equipment manuals.

  • Ability to use hand and power tools to install PV panels.

  • Ability to take direction from supervisors or leads.

  • Ability to step in for the Foreman when necessary.

  • Ability to operate machinery such as scissor lifts and wire tuggers.

  • Knowledge of software used for internal communication - email, Salesforce, Drive, etc.

Education and Experience: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Vocational or technical school training preferred.

  • Maintaining current manufacturer certifications for commonly used equipment is required.

  • Industry certifications and training are preferred.

  • Previous related experience is required.

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to work at great heights and in attics.

  • Must be able to work in extreme weather conditions.

  • Prolonged periods of kneeling, bending, crouching, and climbing ladders.

  • Must be able to dig trenches and footing holes.

  • Must be able to lift at least 35 pounds at a time.
