Are you looking to start a hands-on career in parks and irrigation maintenance? The Town is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual to join our Parks team as a Maintenance Operator – Irrigation Trainee. This is a fantastic entry-level opportunity for someone looking to gain practical skills while completing a nationally recognised qualification in a supportive, team-based environment.

About the role

Reporting to the Irrigation Officer, you will support the team in maintaining irrigation systems across more than 100 hectares of public open space – including active and passive reserves, streetscapes, gardens, and facility surrounds. As a trainee, you will receive on-the-job training and mentorship while undertaking formal study in amenity horticulture or a related field.

What we’re looking for:

• A positive attitude, willingness to learn, and an interest in working outdoors
• Ability to follow instructions and work safely as part of a team
• Basic computer literacy and a willingness to learn new systems
• A current C class driver's licence (MR licence desirable but not essential)
• Any prior exposure to irrigation, horticulture, or outdoor work is a bonus – but not required

This is a full-time traineeship opportunity and would suit a school leaver, career changer, or someone looking to gain industry experience and a qualification in a practical field.
