Job Summary

The Director, Origination and Structuring is responsible for identifying, developing, and negotiating revenue offtake contacts for battery energy storage (BESS) projects. This role plays a crucial role in developing offtake strategy as well as plays a lead role in creating and maintaining relationships with customers while driving revenue growth through new business development.

The Director, Origination and Structuring will report to the Chief Executive Officer. 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred
• 10 years of experience in energy markets, with at least 5 years in origination, structuring, or business development
• Proven track record of successfully originating and closing energy transactions
• Experience with BESS and/or thermal power plants

Skills & Competencies

• Deep understanding of energy markets, products, and pricing structures
• Strong knowledge of power generation, transmission, and distribution systems 
• Familiarity with BESS and market dynamics
• Excellent negotiation, communication, and presentation skills 
• Advanced financial modeling and analytical capabilities
• Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Proficiency in CRM systems and Microsoft Office suite
• Ability to develop and implement long-term business strategies, with a strong business sense and understanding of value creation
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to develop trust with stakeholders

• Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate commercial and operational risks
• Flexibility to navigate changing market conditions and business priorities

Responsibilities

• Lead identification, evaluation, and negotiation of new business opportunities to expand the company's BESS portfolio.
• Source and structure complex energy transactions including hedges, tolls, and other offtake-related products.
• Develop and maintain relationships with key clients, partners, and industry stakeholders to drive business growth.
• Monitor energy markets, regulatory developments, and industry trends to identify emerging opportunities and risks.
• Collaborate with senior leadership to establish and implement the company's origination and growth strategy.
• Lead complex contract negotiations with sophisticated counterparties to secure favorable terms.
• Work closely with Project Delivery and Asset Management team members to ensure contract continuity.
• Oversee the development of financial models to evaluate the profitability and risk of potential energy deals.

Work Conditions

The Director, Origination and Structuring will be based in Chicago, IL and may work in a hybrid arrangement with a combination of in-office and remote work. This position requires regular travel (up to 50%) to meet with clients, attend industry events, and visit project sites.
