Position: Drilling and Blasting Supervisor
We are seeking for an experienced Drilling and Blasting Supervisor to join our team in Mashonaland West (Zimbabwe).
Operational Responsibilities
Plan, organize, and supervise daily drilling and blasting operations according to production and design requirements.
Coordinate with Mine Planning and Geology departments to implement accurate drill patterns, charge plans, and blast timing.
Monitor drilling performance, penetration rates, and equipment utilization to ensure maximum efficiency.
Oversee loading of explosives, stemming, tie-in, and firing sequences to ensure compliance with safety and design standards.
Ensure that blasting operations achieve the required fragmentation, minimize flyrock, vibration, and dust emissions.
Maintain records of drilling and blasting activities, including drill logs, explosive usage, and blast reports.
Safety Responsibilities
Ensure strict adherence to all safety regulations, company policies, and legal requirements regarding explosives handling and storage.
Conduct pre-blast inspections and safety briefings for all personnel involved.
Identify potential hazards during drilling and blasting operations and implement corrective actions promptly.
Report and investigate incidents, near misses, or deviations from procedures related to drill and blast activities.
Environmental Responsibilities
Ensure all blasting operations minimize environmental impact, including ground vibration, noise, and air overpressure.
Monitor and report environmental compliance in accordance with site standards and regulatory limits.
Promote responsible handling and disposal of explosive materials and packaging.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Mining Engineering or related field. (Desirable not mandatory)
Minimum of 10 years of experience in open-pit mining operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or superintendent-level role in drilling and blasting, or relevant experience with EPSA Group.
Proven technical knowledge of drilling and blasting techniques, blast design, and explosives regulations.
Experience managing drilling fleets and blast crews.
Certified Shotfirer or Blasting License (recognized in Zimbabwe or equivalent).
Experience working with different rock types and production blasting in large open-pit environments.
Knowledge of different drilling rigs, explosives types, and blasting accessories.
Familiarity with vibration monitoring, blast optimization techniques, and regulatory reporting.
Experience in contract mining or remote site operations.
Leadership or operational management training (an asset).
