Our client, a privately held E&P operator, is seeking a Drilling Engineer to coordinate the planning and execution of onshore horizontal and remedial drilling operations. This role works with cross-functional teams and contractors to ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective drilling in compliance with regulatory and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop well designs, drilling programs, and cost estimates.
- Prepare drilling procedures and AFE proposals.
- Apply drilling best practices and identify improvement opportunities.
- Support contractor selection, bid evaluation, and vendor negotiations.
- Coordinate contractors to optimize efficiency and minimize time from spud to first production.
- Maintain rig schedules, daily reports, and well records.
- Prepare performance reviews and support permitting activities.
- Provide technical guidance and support to internal teams.
- Participate in field visits for rig inspections and pre-spud meetings.
- Support HSE initiatives and maintain a safe work environment.
- Periodic field travel required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
- 5+ years of drilling engineering experience with an E&P, focus on horizontal wells in U.S. shale basins.
- Prior rig experience and well control certification preferred.
- Strong knowledge of directional drilling and well control.
- Experience with unconventional assets (shale, tight gas).
- Solid analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally.
- Strong communication and computer skills.
