The Executive Director for Civil Rights is responsible for ensuring the institution's adherence to federal nondiscrimination regulations and civil rights protections. This role involves overseeing compliance with laws such as Title IX, ADA, Section 504, Title VI, Equal Employment Opportunity, Clery Act, and other relevant federal and state regulations.
This role is crucial for maintaining a safe and inclusive environment within the institution, ensuring that all members of the community are protected under federal nondiscrimination laws. This is a cabinet level leadership position with a direct report to the Chancellor and serves as the Executive Director for Civil Rights and Title IX coordinator for UW-Stevens Point.
Chancellor’s Office
• Minimum of 3 years or more of professional experience in a legal, compliance or other administrative role with responsibility over interpreting and applying civil rights policies and protections in a large organization.
• Knowledge of current federal and state civil rights laws, including Title IX, ADA, Section 504, Title VI, Clery and related regulations.
• Knowledge of employment and educational regulatory requirements, guidelines, and procedures for the administration of federal and state laws on civil rights, such as ADA, VEVRAA, Sections 503/504, Title II, Title VI, Title VII and Title IX, and the Clery Act.
• Experience managing complex compliance issues and investigations.
• Ability to use independent judgment and to manage and impart confidential information.
• Critical thinking skills and the ability to analyze, summarize, and effectively present data.
• Interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Minimum of 3 years or more of professional experience in a legal, compliance or other administrative role with responsibility over interpreting and applying civil rights policies and protections in a large organization or, specifically in a higher education setting.
• Ability to maintain a current understanding of emerging equal opportunity and affirmative action legislation, issues, and trends.
• Demonstrated ability to develop institutional policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of concepts, practices, principles and procedures of strategic business planning and reporting.
Bachelor's Degree required. J.D. or equivalent degree preferred.
