Description

Job Overview: The Golf Course Irrigation Technician is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the efficient operation of the irrigation system across the golf course. This includes troubleshooting, repairing, installing, and maintaining irrigation equipment, while also ensuring the health and aesthetics of the turf and landscape. The technician plays a vital role in conserving water and ensuring that the course is adequately watered to provide optimal playing conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. System Installation and Maintenance:
    • Install, maintain, and repair irrigation systems, including sprinklers, valves, controllers, and pumps.
    • Regularly check and clean irrigation components to ensure proper functionality.
    • Test and adjust sprinkler heads to ensure proper water coverage and minimize water waste.
  2. Troubleshooting and Repair:
    • Diagnose and repair issues with the irrigation system, including leaks, broken heads, wiring issues, and pump malfunctions.
    • Use specialized tools and equipment to repair or replace damaged components.
  3. Water Management:
    • Monitor weather patterns and adjust irrigation schedules accordingly.
    • Ensure the irrigation system operates efficiently, reducing water waste while providing adequate water coverage to the course.
    • Work with management to develop and implement water conservation strategies.
  4. System Monitoring and Adjustments:
    • Regularly inspect and monitor irrigation systems to ensure they are operating at peak efficiency.
    • Adjust the system as needed based on seasonal changes or environmental conditions.
  5. Record Keeping:
    • Maintain detailed records of irrigation system maintenance, repairs, and adjustments.
    • Track water usage and efficient data to support conservation goals.
  6. Collaboration:
    • Work closely with the groundskeeping and maintenance teams to ensure the overall health and appearance of the golf course.
    • Coordinate with course management to schedule irrigation system downtime for repairs or upgrades.
  7. Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure all irrigation systems comply with local water regulations and guidelines.
    • Follow all safety protocols and maintain equipment in safe working conditions.
    • Report any hazardous conditions immediately to management.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (some positions may require additional certifications or training).
  • Previous experience working with irrigation systems, preferably on golf courses or large landscapes.
  • Knowledge of turfgrass care and the need for golf course landscaping.
  • Familiarity with irrigation design, installation, and repair.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot irrigation issues.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift heavy equipment and perform manual labor.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.

Desired Skills:

  • Certification in irrigation system management (Certified Irrigation License).
  • Experience with irrigation system design or landscape irrigation programming.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, and pipe-cutting tools.
  • Understanding water conservation techniques and sustainable practices.

Working Conditions:

  • Outdoor work in all weather conditions.
  • May require early mornings, weekends, and holidays during peak golf seasons.
  • Physical labor, including bending, lifting, and digging.
