Position Title: Irrigation Technician
Reports to: Golf Course Maintenance Director
Position Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Golf Course Irrigation Technician to join our team in Pinehurst, NC. This full-time position is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operation of the golf course’s irrigation systems to ensure optimal turf health and playability. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting the grounds team and maintaining the high standards of our championship-level golf facility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Install, inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems, including heads, valves, pipes, and controllers.
- Monitor system performance and make timely adjustments to ensure efficient water distribution.
- Troubleshoot and resolve irrigation issues such as leaks, pressure problems, or controller malfunctions.
- Assist in planning and implementing irrigation schedules based on weather, turf needs, and maintenance schedules.
- Operate and maintain irrigation-related tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Perform seasonal start-up and winterization of irrigation systems.
- Work closely with the superintendent and grounds crew to support daily course maintenance.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, parts inventory, and irrigation schedules.
- Respond to irrigation emergencies as needed, including occasional after-hours support.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with golf course or large turf irrigation systems (Toro or Rain Bird preferred).
- Strong understanding of irrigation system components, water conservation techniques, and turfgrass water requirements.
- Ability to read and interpret irrigation blueprints, technical manuals, and schematics.
- Basic plumbing, electrical, and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with central irrigation control systems and scheduling software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced outdoor environment.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Certification in irrigation or turf management is a plus.
