- Operation, inspection, maintenance, repairs and performance of central air handling units, public fan coil and technical room fan coil units, supply and extract ducting and fan systems, central air handling stations, mist eliminators and individual Guest, Crew and public space air conditioning units and the cabin control system, as well as the Valmarine supervisory system.
- Maintains all air handling systems in a state of cleanliness for a safe and efficient operation and in full compliance with VSP requirements.
- Schedule the maintenance times for central air handling units and/or public fan coil units in a way that impact on Guest or Crew comfort will be minimal and communicate accordingly with other departments.
- Maintains system performance and all external influences which affect the performance of systems and the comfort of Guests and Crew.
- Monitors public spaces, working areas, state rooms and Crew cabins from an Energy Saving point of view making the necessary adjustments / suggestions to reach the most efficient energy conservation use of the HVAC plant.
- Maintains continuous (regular and frequent) “space patrol” of the entire ship to personally experience the comfort and ambience of guest and crew spaces to see that conditions as portrayed on monitoring systems are genuinely replicated in place.
- Inspections include observation of, and involvement in, local operations such as external/internal door function and usage, Guest and Crew flow, loading/unloading operations, deployment of curtains/blinds and other sun/heat reflecting/absorbing mediums to improve efficiency and enhance ambient conditions.
- Operation, inspection, maintenance, repairs and performance of domestic refrigeration boxes in central stores area and those distributed between galleys and pantries throughout vessel.
- Operation, inspection, maintenance, repairs and performance of individual refrigeration units, ice makers, ice cream dispenser, chilled water drinking fountains, suite refrigerators and display cabinets throughout the vessel.
- Maintains all refrigeration equipment performance within operational requirements as defined by VSP.
- Inspection, maintenance, repairs of insulation, cladding and support of pipe work and ducting systems for both HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Proficient use of AMOS to forecast, implement and record all work undertaken and all spares/consumables required for use and stock. Dry dock work orders are prepared with adequate prior notice and inventory spot checks are undertaken in cooperation with engineering department storekeeper.
- Proficient use of AIMS system to forecast, respond to and record all work relating to guest and crew area deficiencies. Work orders are closed out in a timely fashion with feedback being provided as necessary.
- Overseas and participates in work/ training undertaken by contractors who may attend the vessel on a regular or as required frequency.
- Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency of HVAC and refrigeration systems by means of operational procedures and equipment renewal and/or modifications.
- Maintains cleanliness and general condition of all work locations.
- Maintains regular performance assessment on those crew reporting to him. Administers coaching, counseling and discipline as necessary.
- Interacts with Guests, Crew, contractors and shore personnel in a friendly and respectful manner to maintain/enhance the reputation and integrity of the Engineering Department.
- Maintains relevant documentation in electronic and/or hard copy as appropriate. Prepares handover reports to see to the continuity of work as defined by the responsibilities of this position.
