MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN- PATHWAY TO REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN

 

Overview:

This position will start as a Maintenance Technician, focusing on general building maintenance and preventative upkeep. Over time, the selected candidate will receive training and hands-on experience to transition into a Refrigeration Technician role. The school district will provide all necessary training and support to develop the skills required for refrigeration and HVAC systems.

 

Initial Responsibilities (Maintenance Technician)

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance, including changing filters, belts, and cleaning air handling equipment.
  • Monitor and analyze Building Control Management Systems (BCMS) daily.
  • Assist in inspecting and maintaining all district refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
  • Conduct biannual inspections of playground equipment and bleachers in gyms and athletic fields.
  • Perform annual roof inspections and cleaning.
  • Collect and record data for the preventive maintenance program.
  • Write reports and work orders; address identified discrepancies.
  • Assist with summer lawn care (mowing, sprinkler repairs, trimming, pruning).
  • Provide winter snow removal as needed.
  • Assist with moving district assets between facilities.

Growth & Training (Pathway to Refrigeration Technician)

  • Receive training in HVAC and refrigeration systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Gain hands-on experience in commercial air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Must obtain a Type I/Type II Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification within the first two years of employment (training and certification support provided by the district).
  • Learn to read blueprints and specifications related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Earn wage increases as key training and certification milestones are met.

 

Required Knowledge & Abilities

  • Some knowledge of general building maintenance.
  • Willingness and ability to learn troubleshooting and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment common to HVAC activities.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to write reports.
