MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN- PATHWAY TO REFRIGERATION TECHNICIAN
Overview:
This position will start as a Maintenance Technician, focusing on general building maintenance and preventative upkeep. Over time, the selected candidate will receive training and hands-on experience to transition into a Refrigeration Technician role. The school district will provide all necessary training and support to develop the skills required for refrigeration and HVAC systems.
Initial Responsibilities (Maintenance Technician)
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, including changing filters, belts, and cleaning air handling equipment.
- Monitor and analyze Building Control Management Systems (BCMS) daily.
- Assist in inspecting and maintaining all district refrigeration and air conditioning equipment.
- Conduct biannual inspections of playground equipment and bleachers in gyms and athletic fields.
- Perform annual roof inspections and cleaning.
- Collect and record data for the preventive maintenance program.
- Write reports and work orders; address identified discrepancies.
- Assist with summer lawn care (mowing, sprinkler repairs, trimming, pruning).
- Provide winter snow removal as needed.
- Assist with moving district assets between facilities.
Growth & Training (Pathway to Refrigeration Technician)
- Receive training in HVAC and refrigeration systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
- Gain hands-on experience in commercial air conditioning and heating systems.
- Must obtain a Type I/Type II Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification within the first two years of employment (training and certification support provided by the district).
- Learn to read blueprints and specifications related to HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Earn wage increases as key training and certification milestones are met.
Required Knowledge & Abilities
- Some knowledge of general building maintenance.
- Willingness and ability to learn troubleshooting and repair of HVAC and refrigeration systems.
- Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment common to HVAC activities.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to write reports.
