Job Description:

Department

EDF Trading’s origination team works with a wide range of wholesale market counterparts such as utilities, transportation companies and large commodity consumers and producers. Origination activities cover the whole range of the commodities spectrum with a primary goal to complement the standard product related trading activities with non-standard contractual or asset based positions.

The origination team can offer structured transactions tailored to the needs of market counterparties, and may involve a number of different commodities, be long-term and have physical and derivative components.  The origination team is also involved in acquiring physical assets as well as arranging long-term purchase and sale contracts across the energy markets.

Position purpose

The role requires a significant amount of analytical individual work, as well as a lot of communication and negotiation internally as well as externally. For success in this role the deep understanding of and knowledge about the business (the EDF Group as well as the counterparties’) is key, which can be learned gradually through learning-by-doing approach in the team.

You will quickly become responsible for your own business development tasks and customers:

  • Work with EDF DCO (Direction Commerce) in order to support the growth of its natural gas sales C&I (commercial and industrial) portfolio as well as the management of its natural gas supply:
    • Customer interaction:pitch energy market fundamentals across all energies, 150 live hedging mandates (pricing exchanges, closing and booking of deals)
    • Create additional value on the back of the flow: options, hedging outside “France”, biogas, EUAs, voluntary carbon credits, i.e. leverage on EDFT’s multi commodity platform
    • Negotiate annual market access and structure market tools (liquidity options, storages etc.) to support DCO’s supply portfolio
  • Maintain and improve the EDF DCO flow reporting tool
    • mandates booking, volume/price follow up, trade bookings, invoicing
  • Optimization of the company’s assets (EDF GAMD) such as storage, LNG related assets
  • Originating new deals in certain target countries (France focused) with external counterparties
  • Supporting role in the Origination team with external flow business
  • Analyzing and keeping up to date information about market characteristics

Experience required

  • 3-5 years work experience in the European gas, oil or electricity markets is essential
  • Experience within commercial sales team a plus
  • Fluent French and English language skills

Technical requirements

  • Knowledge of the European gas network and technicalities
  • Graduate qualification in analytically based discipline e.g. finance/science/engineering/maths

Person specification

  • Proactive with strong communication and analystical skills
  • Experience of working in a fast paced environment is essential

Hours of work:

8.30am – 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, Paris office 3-days a week minimum
