Salary: $60/hr - $65/hr
Citizenship: US citizenship Required
Clearance: Ability to acquire a Q clearance
Per Diem/Relocation: Approved

Job Overview:

The Construction Management (CM) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking a Project Manager 2 / Superintendent 3 to lead and oversee construction projects in support of the Lab’s mission. This role involves managing projects valued at $500K+, supervising Superintendent 2s, ensuring safety compliance, and maintaining project schedules and budgets.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in construction project management, facility maintenance, and/or construction oversight, with a strong ability to manage resources, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Leadership: Lead construction projects valued at $500K+, overseeing scope, schedule, and budget.
  • Supervision & Oversight: Provide guidance to Superintendent 2s as necessary.
  • Safety & Compliance: Investigate abnormal events, incidents, and accidents to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Project Controls & Performance:
    • Serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) for project planning, budgeting, cost control, and schedule performance.
    • Ensure work packages reflect realistic schedules and budgets.
    • Perform variance analysis and develop corrective action plans as needed.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate project plans, updates, and challenges to senior management, project stakeholders, and federal sponsors.
  • Risk Management: Identify project risks, develop mitigation strategies, and recommend risk acceptance/avoidance.
  • Technical Expertise: Lead constructability reviews, analyze design impacts on cost and schedule, and manage facility maintenance systems.
  • Labor & Contract Management: Maintain knowledge of collective bargaining agreements related to all trades.
  • Communication & Reporting: Prepare and present detailed reports on project status, risks, and performance.
  • Work Coordination: Utilize computerized work management systems to track job activities, manage resources, and coordinate with vendors/suppliers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of work experience in construction management, engineering, procurement, or related fields.
    • 5+ years of experience in engineering, procurement, or construction leadership roles.
    • Experience in nuclear facilities and compliance with DOE regulations.
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Expertise in construction project management, facility maintenance, and safety regulations.
    • Proficiency in Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) for project tracking.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and engineering documents.
  • Safety & Regulatory Compliance:
    • Strong understanding of work hazards, safety procedures, lock-out/tag-out policies, and environmental regulations.
  • Leadership & Communication:
    • Proven ability to lead teams, manage resources, and oversee project execution.
    • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills for reporting project status and engaging with stakeholders.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field (preferred) OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certifications in Project Management (PMP) or relevant industry credentials are a plus.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have an Active DOE Q Clearance.
  • Must have nuclear project experience.
  • Must be available for a flexible work schedule (Days and Graves shifts as required).
