Description

POSITION PURPOSE: Operates, maintains, monitors, tests and repairs refrigeration equipment including electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components. Applies knowledge of refrigeration, electrical, electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and applies skills in restoring equipment to operation. Provides skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of facility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Maintain a high level of urgency in responding to all trouble calls
  2. Complete all trouble response calls through documentation of rounds sheets, log books, work orders and downtime log     
  3. Discuss all repairs with Operators, Production Managers, Maintenance Supervisor, and Technicians to ensure customers’ needs are fulfilled
  4. Coordinate trouble response efforts and the need to complete PM tasks in a timely manner, with fellow technicians to maximize uptime
  5. Insure all startup and shutdown procedures for each department are completed in a proper and timely manner in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements
  6. Perform preventative maintenance procedures on all assigned equipment
  7. Communicate with Maintenance Supervisor, Production Managers, Production Associates, and fellow Technicians when performing daily, weekly, and monthly travel paths
  8. Communicate with the Maintenance Parts Coordinator to insure adequate parts inventories  
  9. Provide descriptions, part numbers, quantities, and time lines when needed
  10. Promote a safe and clean working environment by following clean as you go procedures 
  11. Attend and participate in all safety, staff, etc. meetings and activities
  12. Create a sense of urgency in the training and development of all new technicians and foster an atmosphere of knowledge sharing
  13. Continue to promote and utilize the Enterprise Asset Management System by following all 7i procedures and expanding individual use of the system
  14. Ensure that all safety procedures and guidelines are properly adhered to
  15. Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical/electronic equipment including but not limited to programmable controls, variable speed AC drives, power supplies, gearboxes, and pumps
  16. Inform appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved
  17. Assist maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting
  18. Assist the Refrigeration Supervisor with the on-going development and upkeep the Process Safety Management Program.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.   • 1-3 years of ammonia refrigeration experience to include compressors, ammonia pumps, condensing towers and full understanding of refrigeration cycle.
  • 3-5 years of proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas.
  • Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Good mechanical aptitude
  • Tig and stick welding skills a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical/ electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment, and especially must be able to interface and communicate with line operators in order to assist with repairs and troubleshooting.
  • Computer experience/operation and an understanding of PLC operation are necessary.
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects/repairs simultaneously
  • Must have knowledge of machining and assembly practices, tools and fixtures
  • Must have complete knowledge of shop operations
