Apprentice will be trained on the following below.
• Calculate the weight and center of gravity of basic objects.
• Control movement of heavy equipment through narrow openings or confined spaces, using chain falls, gin poles, gallows frames, and other equipment.
• Inspect, maintain, safely setup, and use rigging gear.
• Dismantle and store rigging equipment after use.
• Manipulate rigging lines, hoists, and pulling gear to move or support materials such as heavy equipment.
• Select gear such as cables, pulleys, and winches, according to load weights and sizes, and facilities, under the direction of the Rigger in charge.
• Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads, in order to ensure safety of workers and materials.
• Inspect rigging to ensure safety and reliability.
• Operate, clean, inspect and maintain commercial trucks, tractor trailer rigs, forklifts, self-propelled elevating work platforms, aerial work platforms, and other equipment.
• Assist the crane operator in cleaning & dressing machine surfaces, component parts, maintenance, setup, and pre-use checks of the crane.
• Keep non-essential personnel away from the crane's operating envelope during lifting evolutions.
• Direct crane movements with clear, concise, and continuous signals to the crane operator.
• Watch for and inform other team members of potential problems.
• Stop the job any time unsafe conditions are found and report problems that cannot be resolved.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must be able to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with body, arms, and legs.
• Must be able to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull and carry heavy objects.
• Must be able to lift 50lbs load overhead.
DESIRED:
• Basic math skills, calculating weights, and understanding rigging angles
• Basic knot tying, clover hitch, bowline, trucker's hitch.
• Comfort with heights
