The Inspections Unit is responsible for engineering inspection programs for various development-related and municipal construction projects to ensure contractor compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and City by-laws, specifications, standards and guidelines. Inspection programs include: inspection of lot grading and drainage, slope stability, roads, sidewalks, street lighting and other construction related to development applications (e.g. subdivision plans, condominium plans, site plans, small infills, etc.); inspection and commissioning of all new municipal infrastructure, including sewers, watermains, roads, bridges and culverts; and inspection of the asphalt overlay program and road cut reinstatements through the warranty period.
You are responsible for the inspection and the enforcement of multiple (hundreds) road cut permits, municipal consent projects, infill developments, asphalt resurfacing agreements, various site plan development projects and service requests from the public. Acting as a Provincial Offences Officer, you monitor and enforce the provisions of all relevant municipal by-laws related to construction within the City’s Right of Way, while coordinating the work of various parties to ensure compliance.
Completion of a two (2) year Civil Engineering Technician or directly related diploma program
Minimum of 5 years of relevant construction inspection experience in the field of heavy construction, building, municipal, structural or development projects, including demonstrated leadership and communication abilities
Successful completion of Ontario Good Roads and MTO courses related to materials and construction is considered an asset
CERTIFICATIONS / LICENSES:
Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or Certified Technician (C.Tech.)
Ontario Association Certified Engineering Technician/Technologist is desirable
