We are looking for a proactive and self-driven Soil Scientist with expertise in irrigation management to join our client’s research team. This role is perfect for a hands-on professional who excels at tackling complex soil and irrigation challenges while working closely with growers. The position can be based in either Pongola or Malelane, with a relocation allowance available if required.
Conduct research and implement best practices to optimize irrigation management across different soil types.
Provide practical, field-based training and knowledge exchange with sugarcane growers.
Develop solutions for irrigation challenges, including system selection, scheduling, drainage, runoff, and precision agriculture applications.
Offer unbiased, up-to-date advice on soil and water management.
Collaborate with researchers, extension specialists, and growers to improve irrigation efficiency.
Postgraduate qualification in Soil Science (preferably with a focus on Soil Physics).
Practical experience in irrigation system selection, installation, scheduling, and soil management.
Strong knowledge of various irrigation systems (e.g., surface, subsurface, drip, drag line, semi-permanent).
Ability to work directly with growers and provide practical, actionable solutions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster strong relationships with stakeholders.
Bilingual in English and Afrikaans (IsiZulu and SiSwati beneficial).
Valid driver’s license and own vehicle (travel allowance provided).
Covering Mtubatuba, Komatipoort, Pongola, Mpumalanga, Northern KZN, and Eswatini.
Extensive travel across a 50,000-hectare area, with occasional overnight stay
