 Summer Apprenticeship - Refrigeration & Fire Systems

 

ON-SITE HICKORY NC

**MUST BE CURRENTLY ENROLLED IN A REFRIGERATION SCHOOL PROGRAM**

 

This apprenticeship provides practical, hands-on experience in maintaining and troubleshooting ammonia refrigeration and fire safety systems in a facilities setting. Participants will develop valuable knowledge and skills in the field of refrigeration and fire systems management.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities and tasks:

  • Support the maintenance and compliance of the SQF (Safe Quality Food) program.
  • Utilize the maintenance management system to log and complete repair tasks.
  • Aid in maintaining pneumatic systems and the PSM (Process Safety Management) program.
  • Learn to navigate and troubleshoot the ammonia control system, including addressing faults, failures, and leaks.
  • Support fire suppression system maintenance, including valve adjustments, pump packing, and system inspections.
  • Perform basic maintenance on air compressors and fire pumps.
  • Participate in identifying and resolving issues such as damaged piping, corroded sprinklers, and missing hangers.

 

Qualifications

Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Enrolled in or completion of AC Technician program for facilities
  • Interest in facilities maintenance, refrigeration systems, or fire safety operations.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a self-motivated attitude.
  • Effective communication and organizational abilities.
  • Certification in pallet jack or forklift operation is a plus

Skills Intern Will Learn:

  • Hands-on experience with state-of-the-art systems and tools.
  • Knowledge of maintenance best practices and regulatory compliance.
  • Exposure to practical problem-solving in facility operations.
