Business Overview

Group Compliance Supervisory Department plays an important role in maintaining and disciplining the entire Group, supporting Rakuten Group’s overall business from a compliance perspective, and maintaining and earning the trust of customers.

 

Department Overview

In particular, Intellectual Property Department contributes to Rakuten Group's business by protecting and utilizing intellectual property, and also contributes to the smooth promotion of business activities by avoiding risks related to intellectual property.

Trademark and Copyright Group acquires, maintains, and manages disputes regarding trademark rights in Japan and globally for a wide variety of brands, including “Rakuten”, while cooperating with group companies, business divisions, and Marketing Departments, including overseas. We also support our business activities through legal support and enlightenment activities related to trademarks and copyrights.

Trademark & Copyright Group has many opportunities to deal with the most advanced issues in each legal field, such as issues related to the use of trademarks on the Internet and copyright laws related to generation AI.

 

Position:

Why We Hire

We will be expanding our workforce to strengthen the protection of the Rakuten brand in our expanding business activities and to proactively address copyright law risks associated with advanced technologies such as generative AI.

 

Position Details

- Formulation and maintenance of a global portfolio of trademark rights in line with Rakuten’s brand and business strategies

- Trademark clearance search, risk judgment, prosecutions, and maintenance (cooperation with external patent attorneys and lawyers in Japan and overseas)

- Monitoring and takedown of unfair/imitation use of trademarks and copyrighted works by third parties

- Negotiations with external parties regarding, trademarks, copyrights, etc. including contract reviews

- Handling with trademark/copyright disputes

- Consultation on trademarks, copyrights, etc. for business divisions

- Create and operate internal guidelines on trademarks, copyrights, etc.

- Internal education activities regarding trademarks, copyrights, etc.

- Establishment of internal governance system for trademarks, copyrights, etc.

 

Work Environment

Intellectual Property Department has about thirty members.

 

Mandatory Qualifications:

- Experiences in trademark clearance searches and trademark prosecutions in Japan and overseas

- Experiences handling copyrights matters in corporate business (especially in copyright handling business, operations related to generated AI, and contract review)

- Experiences in judging infringement of trademark rights and copyrights

 

Desired Qualifications:

- Experiences in handling disputes related to trademarks and copyrights

- Experiences of Manager/Leader

- Certified Specialist of Intellectual Property Management, Patent Attorney, Lawyer
