Title:                           Treaty Rights Protected (TRP) Engagement Coordinator

Description:     The Union of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq is seeking a passionate and organized TRP Engagement Coordinator to lead and support community engagement efforts across Mi’kmaq fishing communities under the Treaty Rights Protected (TRP) Fisheries framework. This is a dynamic and impactful role for someone who values collaboration, community voice, and the principles of Netukulimk.

 

The TRP Engagement Coordinator will work closely with the TRP Assistant Fisheries Manager, Engagement Facilitators, Compliance Officers, and other team members. They will be responsible for organizing and supporting consistent engagement strategies across communities, coordinating the efforts of facilitators, and maintaining clear, high-quality communication with harvesters. The Coordinator will also support day-to-day scheduling, reporting, information sharing, and the implementation of outreach activities to build trust and foster consensus across the Mi’kmaq fishing communities.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Coordination:
    • Organize and lead weekly check-ins with the regional Engagement Facilitators.
    • Support alignment of harvester engagement activities, communication strategies, and outreach efforts.
    • Track schedules, activity plans, and team deliverables.
  • Engagement Strategy Execution:
    • Ensure consistent delivery of TRP updates, protocols, and messages to communities.
    • Assist with the creation of education materials and engagement tools.
    • Adapt engagement approaches based on community needs and feedback.
  • Reporting & Insights:
    • Compile summaries of community engagement efforts and identify trends.
    • Provide regular updates to TRP and KMKNO Fisheries leadership.
    • Help inform policy through grassroots feedback and on-the-ground observations.
  • Capacity Building:
    • Mentor and support new Engagement Facilitators.
    • Contribute to training on outreach, facilitation, and TRP knowledge.

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years experience in community engagement, fisheries coordination, or team leadership.
  • Strong understanding of Mi’kmaq fisheries and Netukulimk principles.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and travel regionally as needed.
  • Mi’kmaq language proficiency or a willingness to learn is an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license required.

 

Work Environment

  • Field-based, regionally mobile role.
  • Weekly team coordination activities.
  • May include occasional evening and weekend work.
