Seeking a full-time Wind Turbine Generator Technician (WTG) in support of Base Operations Services (BOS) and Mission Support Services (MSS) at Ascension Auxiliary Air Field (AAAF). Your Impact

Major Job Activities: 

  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on wind turbines, including electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems. 
  • Conduct diagnostics and troubleshooting to identify faults and repair turbine components. 
  • Ensure safety compliance by following established procedures and industry best practices. 
  • Document and report on turbine performance, maintenance activities, and system health. 
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and operations teams to optimize energy production. 
  • Assist in high-voltage electrical work and ensure compliance with grid integration requirements. 
  • Maintain inventory control of spare parts and tools necessary for ongoing maintenance. 

Material & Equipment Directly Used: 

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
  • Lodging database software and cleaning supplies.
  • Mechanic’s tool kit, various hand, and power tools.
  • May be exposed to potentially hazardous conditions that require wear of hard hats, gloves, steel toed boots, hearing protection, safety glasses and other personal protection equipment (PPE); may be required to push, pull, and lift heavy equipment.
  • Use of portable radios or cell phones to maintain contact and accountability of work activities. 

Working Environment: 

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside. 
  • The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. 

Physical Activities: 

  • Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. This factor is important if the amount and kind of climbing required exceeds that required for ordinary locomotion. 
  • Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling and walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium.  

Who You Are

Required Qualifications  

  • Must have computer skills and be able to operate a variety of computer programs.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write English fluently
  • Must maintain a valid driver’s license from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date.
  • Must maintain a valid passport from their home country with validity for 12 months from on-site employment date
  • Must be able to gain and maintain authorized entry onto US military installations.
  • Must meet United States Department of Defense medical requirements necessary to live and work at Ascension Island

Additional Required Qualifications  

Education: 

  • Technical certification or associate degree in wind energy, electrical engineering, or a related field.

Certifications: 

  • Must be eligible for Base Access / Clearance.
  • GWO (Global Wind Organization) certification preferred. 

Experience / Skills: 

  • 3+ years of experience in wind turbine maintenance or power generation systems. 
  • Strong knowledge of SCADA systems, PLC troubleshooting, and electrical schematics. 
  • Ability to climb and work at heights exceeding 200 feet. 

Supervisory / Budget Responsibilities:  

  • This position may have Supervisory and/or Budgetary responsibilities as needed.
