Role Overview

A leading large mining house in the Northern Cape is seeking a qualified and experienced Millwright to ensure optimal availability and reliability of shovel and loader equipment in support of safe, efficient, and continuously improved plant operations. The role requires strong electrical and mechanical expertise, a proactive maintenance approach, and strict adherence to SHERQ and statutory requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Performance Areas

The successful incumbent will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following:

  • Executing electrical and mechanical maintenance on heavy mining equipment
  • Ensuring optimal availability and reliability of shovel and loader fleets
  • Performing planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance activities
  • Conducting electrical repairs, fault finding, and corrective maintenance
  • Supporting planning and organising of maintenance activities and resources
  • Driving continuous improvement initiatives within the maintenance function
  • Maintaining accurate document control, job cards, and maintenance records
  • Ensuring strict adherence to SHERQ standards, policies, and procedures
  • Applying sound work ethics and safe working practices at all times

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

  • Grade 12
  • Trade Test – Millwright
  • Technical Engineering N2 Certificate

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years’ operational experience in electrical and mechanical repairs on heavy equipment
  • Proven experience working on the following equipment (or similar):
    • Komatsu: PC4000, PC5500
    • CAT: 994, 745C, 740, WA1200
    • Liebherr: 996, 9200

Knowledge, Skills & Competencies

Computer Literacy:

  • Basic user of JD Edwards or equivalent maintenance/ERP systems

Equipment & Technical Expertise:

  • Heavy earthmoving equipment maintenance
  • Completed OEM training
  • Competent in the use of tools required to effect mechanical and electrical repairs
  • Strong understanding of asset management and EAMS business processes
  • Knowledge of condition monitoring techniques
  • Sound lubrication principles and applications
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and drive train alignment

Technical & Statutory Knowledge:

  • Accurate and effective maintenance reporting
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings and schematics
  • Working knowledge of the MHSA, COPs, and SOPs

Other Requirements

  • Medically fit and able to meet mining medical fitness standards
  • Valid Code EB / B Driver’s Licence
