Description

Purpose

Function as project lead on multiple types of directional drilling projects in the field. Act as the company’s representative in all interactions with client and third parties on site. Use technical expertise and sound judgment to supervise all directional drilling functions on assigned projects to ensure that projects are completed efficiently, profitably, and to the client’s satisfaction. Supervise and direct the work of Directional Drilling Trainees, Directional Drillers, and Directional Drilling Supervisors. Assist with coordinator duties as needed.

Duties and Essential Functions

  • Function as project lead and act as company’s representative in interactions with client and third parties on site and advise on drilling parameters
  • Create project plan, verify parameters of assignment and project specifications with client and other team members on site, and make corrections as necessary
  • Act as a technical advisor for client and other team members on site
  • Use technical knowledge and sound judgment to make recommendations to client for set up of bottom hole assemblies
  • Use technical expertise and sound judgment to negotiate resolution of any problems or issues that arise to ensure client satisfaction and efficient and profitable completion of project
  • Negotiate pricing with clients, subject to coordinator approval
  • Manage on site staffing to ensure efficient and profitable completion of project
  • Review and approve all necessary documentation (i.e. Invoicing, Tool Inventory, Personnel Tracking, Daily Reports, End of Well) and other reports
  • Monitor drilling operations and make adjustments as necessary
  • Use independent judgment as to bottom hole assembly configuration and drilling parameters to achieve customer’s project requirements
  • Supervise final tool inspection and delivery
  • Responsible for training, directing the work, and evaluating the performance of Directional Drilling Trainees and Directional Drillers and evaluating the performance of Directional Drilling Supervisors
  • Manage all personnel issues on site and use management skills to resolve disciplinary issues, and initiate disciplinary process and/or recommend termination as necessary
  • Interview candidates for directional drilling positions and make recommendations for hiring and promotion


Qualifications

Job Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • 5 to 7 years of demonstrated satisfactory performance as a Directional Driller and/or Directional Drilling Supervisor, with experience in multiple areas and tool types
  • Knowledge of other project lines such as bits, MWD, fishing tools, and whip stocks

Skill Requirements:

  • Understand all required safety training, implement safety protocols, and ensure all safety requirements are followed
  • Communicate effectively with client and other team members regarding progress of project
  • Math proficiency and basic geometry/trigonometry skills in order to perform calculations
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills, including Excel and database programs
  • Able to view and monitor screens and gauges, and troubleshoot danger warning signs
  • Must possess valid driver’s license

Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Good vision and hearing (with assistive devices if necessary) is required.

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but employee could be subjected to loud noises at times while at customer sites. This position primarily involves non manual work inside field office, but regular outdoor work is required, which may involve exposure to wet and/or humid conditions and excessive heat, cold and/or precipitation. This position requires travel throughout the continental U.S. to customer sites as needed.
